 Founder & Managing Partner Zurich and Kuwait
Tomas is the founder of Moravia Capital and is managing the company’s fundraising services business, concentrating on Europe, and the Middle East. As of today, Tomas has advised 50+ private equity and investment funds, approximately EUR 10 billion in total value, on structuring and marketing and is personally involved in raising funds from investors. Tomas has an excellent international network of clients and investors located mainly in Europe and the Middle East. He has been a part of various high caliber delegations on missions to support the German government, including one to the Middle East, with the former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and one with Germany’s Minister of Economy and Technology, Mr. Michael Glos.
Prior to founding Moravia, Tomas was co-founder of ecmg AG (Germany),where he was in charge of corporate finance and private equity advisory services. He worked with Steag AG and participated in the key management development program at Henkel. He, subsequently, became managing director at GFKL (subsidiary of Goldman Sachs International). Tomas holds an MBA from the University of Essen and a PhD in economics/private equity from the Carolo Wilhelmina University Braunschweig, Germany.  Managing Partner – Munich
Norbert is in charge of deal- and fund structuring division. He is also responsible for raising debt and equity mainly in German speaking countries. He has been working with alternative assets since 1987.
Norbert has gained substantial experience in negotiating, structuring and closing mid-cap deals, including spin-offs, MBOs and MBIs, IPOs and public take-overs, mergers as well as restructuring. He has been on the supervisory board of several companies, co-founded and managed Odewald Hammermann & Stelzer (now Odewald & Compagnie), at the time the largest independent private equity fund in Germany. As Director of Deutsche Handelsbank, an investment bank, he was co-responsible for Private Equity and Corporate Finance and has also been working as Investment Manager at the Matuschka Group, Germany’s first company investing into MBO-, Venture Capital- and Fund-of-Funds.Norbert has worked at Ernst & Young in Boston and Munich, where his assignments included audits, company valuations and advisory work involving acquisitions and divestitures of German mid-cap companies. While at Ernst & Young, he also qualified as a Certified Public Accountant (USA) and as Wirtschaftsprüfer and Steuerberater (German chartered accountant and tax advisor). Norbert holds a Diplom-Kaufmann degree from Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich and an MBA from Kansas State University (USA). Partner – Zurich
Ulrike is in charge of business development/fund raising activities in Europe. Ulrike has more than 10 years of experience in Business Development, working with recognized, leading asset managers such as BNP PARIBAS, SOCIETE GENERALE and PIONEER INVESTMENTS. During her time as independent placement agent she advised more than 10 high caliber asset managers within alternative investment space (i.e. hedge funds) on their business development activities within institutional investor segment. She has extensive, longstanding relationships with institutional investors (i.e. HNWI, insurances, corporates) in German speaking countries as well as the rest of Europe. Ulrike holds a degree in Business Administration for Banking and Services Management from Bayreuth University. She speaks German, English, French, Spanish and Russian. Al Razavi has more than 20 years experience working for Wall Street firms in the US. Al started his career at Lehman Brothers, and from there he worked for some of the top investment banking companies, including Sutro & Company and Merrill Lynch.
In the mid-1990s, Mr. Razavi, along with two of his colleagues, helped founding Maxwell Capital, a private investment banking firm. Maxwell eventually created and financed Go2net, which became one of the Internet’s top search engines. After Maxwell he moved to National Securities, United States where he remained until joining Moravia Capital.
He has helped raising money for multiple funds and private companies prior to their IPO. Vice President – India
Abhishek is supporting business development and fund raising activities in Middle East and Asia. Abhishek has around 6 years of experience in the Investment Banking field. Before joining Moravia, he was working with ICICI Bank in the Global Investment Banking Group. He was responsible for advising companies on a wide range of domestic and cross-border transactions - including divestments, acquisitions and private equity syndications. He has advised several Indian companies in the hospitality and consumer goods segment. Abhishek holds a degree in Business Administration with specialization in Finance from S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai. He is also a Chartered Accountant and a commerce graduate from H. R. College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai.  Managing Partner – Kuwait
Dr. Abbas Al-Qattan oversees Moravia's Middle East business activities and is a supervisory board member of Moravia Capital AG in Switzerland. Abbas has twenty-five years of experience in the financial industry, with major international corporations and with the government of Kuwait. He began his career at the Kuwait Investment Company (KIC), where he was responsible for direct investments. Later, he expanded the investment activities for Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA), where he pioneered the first private equity fund (Europhoenix). Recently, he has been instrumental in introducing major economic initiatives to the Government of Kuwait, such as privatisations projects, the creation of local development programs for SMEs and the founding of the National Technology Enterprise Company (NTEC). Abbas has served on the boards of major international corporations, such as Kuwait Egyptian investment Company, Volkswagen AG, Swiss Aluminium and others. He also sits on investment committees for various funds, e.g. the China Fund and Mayur Fund (India). Abbas studied engineering at the University of Miami, completed graduate studies at the Colorado School of Mines and holds a PhD in Financial Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology. Thorsten Katz has more than 10 years experience in corporate finance. Further, he is an established fund raiser in Australia and exclusively represents Moravia Capital’s business activities and interests on that continent.
Prior to that, he worked for Mercedes Benz Group and Zurich Financial Services, where he was responsible for their eCommerce development projects. Mr. Katz also worked as a consultant for the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
Mr. Katz has an MBA in Management and Economics from the University of Mannheim. In addition, he attended further studies in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He also trained as a banking apprentice with Deutsche Bank.
Thorsten Katz and Dr. Tomas Vrana were co-founders of ecmg in 2000, from which Moravia Capital was spun off in 2007.
